Profile

Heino Kuhn is a right-handed batsman who has gone through years and years of grind in South African domestic cricket, representing the Titans. He made his first-class debut in 2005, and for around 10 years, held the responsibility of donning the wicketkeeping gloves too, before giving them up to focus on his batting.

Kuhn attended the Afrikaans High School for Boys, a public school located in Pretoria. Some of his school-mates included AB de Villiers, Jacques Rudolph and Faf du Plessis who went on to play for the Titans and then international cricket for South Africa.

He was the second highest run-scorer for the Titans during the 2006-07 season, scoring 776 runs at an average of 48.5. The highlight during the season was his 216 against the Dolphins at Pietermaritzburg which helped the Titans clinch the title that year.

Following his impressive domestic performances, he made his debut in a T20I match against England in November 2009 at Centurion. He did not get a chance to showcase his skills as England were blown away thanks to a 170 run opening partnership between Loots Bosman and Graeme Smith. Following that match, he went onto play one more T20I against Zimbabwe at Kimberly in October 2010. He came back into the side for 2 more T20Is against Australia in October 2011 but couldn't contribute much.

Following that, he found himself out of the fold from national selection for quite some time, and had to work his way back up. The 2015/16 season saw Kuhn at the top of his game and he finished as the leading run-scorer in first-class cricket that year. Another decent season later, Kuhn was back in the reckoning. As part of the South Africa A tour to UK in 2017, he scored a double hundred against Hampshire and a ton against the Lions, which led to him opening the batting for South Africa during their Test series in England. It was a series in which the conditions weren't the easiest for batsmen to negotiate, and Kuhn struggled right through the four Tests.
