Profile

Adam Lyth rose to fame when his county side Yorkshire won the championship in 2014. He was the chief architect along with follow opening partner, Alex Lees. The pair were unstoppable, even comparisons were drawn between them and Herbert Sutcliffe and Len Hutton. The duo also recorded Yorkshire's fourth highest partnership in county cricket when they added 375 runs for the second wicket at Wantage Road against Northants.

Lyth started his career when he was just 19, he debuted in a Pro40 game for Yorkshire. The following season, he won his maiden first class cap. Though he didn't have the best of starts to his career, Lyth was here to stay. The year 2010 was a successful one as he racked up 1509 runs. However, things went in downward spiral the following season as he found himself out of the playing XI.

His fellow county mates Joe Root and Gary Ballance overtook him and were already part of the Three Lions squad. Even though, Yorkshire skipper Andrew Gale believed he had more potential than the other two. Nonetheless, after not scoring a ton for almost two years, Lyth got to the landmark figure in 2013 and converted it into a double ton as well. By doing so, he became the first Yorkshire batsman to score a double and carry his bat through the innings.

When he was in the form of his life in 2010, rumor had it that he would get a England call up for upcoming Ashes, but that didn't happen. The selectors, however couldn't ignore him for long. Lyth made his debut when New Zealand arrived in 2015. In only his second Test, Lyth recorded his maiden Test ton. That hundred ensured he was part of the England squad for the 2015 Ashes.

Making an international debut in the Ashes season brings its own pressure and Lyth struggled to enforce himself . Aggregating just 115 runs from nine completed innings, at a paltry average of 12.77, it wasn't a surprise that he was left out of the team at the end of the series.
